What to Do If Your Home has a Natural Gas Leak
Knowing what to do in the event of a gas leak is just as crucial as being able to see the warning signs and symptoms of one. If you think you have a gas leak, follow these instructions:
- Exit the building. The home should be quickly evacuated, and everyone within should reassemble in a predetermined safe location. This reduces the amount of gas you are exposed to and puts you away from the house in case the gas leak starts to burn.
- DO NOT open the windows if you smell gas inside your home! It is combustible when natural gas contains between 5 and 15 percent air and is subjected to an ignition source.
- Call for help. As soon as everyone is outside and away from the house.
