Gas Meter Safety

Gas company employees must always be able to access your gas meter for reading, maintenance, testing or changing the meter for replacement. Here are some safety tips you can follow to avoid damage to the gas meter or just practice safety to a gas meter.

Meter Safety:

• For our employees’ safety, please secure your pets away from meters, and never tie a pet to a meter
• Do not stack anything on or attach anything to or cover a meter as this could damage the meter or piping.
• Avoid planting trees, shrubs or bushes within 3ft of your gas meter. As the bush or tree grows, the roots can damage you’re the underground and above ground piping or meter. See more information about the tolerance zone here.
• Remove any snow or ice from the gas meter carefully with a broom or brush, NEVER kick or try to chip with a hard object.
