Fire Prevention Month
October is Fire Prevention Month! The goal is to raise awareness about fire safety. In the event of an emergency, your home and family can be prepared.
In 1922, the National Fire Protection Association name the second week of October Fire Prevention Week in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871.
Many fire departments across the Ozarks will also do school visits throughout the month to help educate younger students about fire safety. Fire Prevention Month lasts the entire month of October, while Fire Prevention Week starts Sunday, October 7 and will last until Saturday, October 13. For Fire Prevention Month this year, First Alert is urging families to improve their home’s safety. Families can do this by checking their alarms, testing the alarms regularly and adding reliable protection when replacing expired alarms.
Fire Prevention Month is the perfect time to talk with your whole family about fire safety. You can discuss the importance of an escape plan, testing alarms, and changing the batteries. You may also consider upgrading to a 10-year sealed battery alarm for hassle-free protection.
